About this tool
This random name generator creates realistic first and last names in one click. Choose a gender and an origin, pick how many names you need, and copy the list. It is useful for writers, game masters, developers and testers who need believable names fast. The names are made in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose a gender, or leave it on Any.
- Pick a name origin, or Mixed to blend them.
- Set how many names you want, from 1 to 50.
- Press Generate names, then Copy all to paste the list.
What people use random names for
- Fiction and role-playing: characters, background extras and shopkeepers on the fly.
- Software testing: placeholder users, demo accounts and mock data for forms and databases.
- Design mockups: realistic names for profiles, emails and invoices instead of "John Doe".
- Classrooms and games: examples for worksheets, party games and icebreakers.
How the names are built
Each name pairs a first name with a surname, both chosen with your browser's secure random source from lists of common names for the selected origin. Every entry in a list is equally likely. The lists contain a few dozen first names and surnames per origin, so a long run can repeat a first or last name even though the full-name combinations vary widely.
Combining names for more variety
With about 20 to 40 choices for each part, a single origin gives hundreds of distinct full names. Mixed mode draws from all origins, which gives much more variety and suits generic mock data. Keep an origin fixed when you want characters from one culture or region to feel consistent.
Things to watch out for
The generated names are random combinations of common names, so a result may match a real person by coincidence. Do not use them to impersonate anyone or to create fake accounts. For real people in your data, use their real names, and for sensitive test data, keep generated names clearly separate from live records. If you need to pick from your own list instead, try the random name picker.
